About SEIE


The School of Electronics and Information Engineering was originated from the Department of Radio Engineering, founded in 1959. In 1996, the department was renamed the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. In 2003, the Institute of Electronics and Information Technology was established, which was renamed the School of Electronics and Information Engineering in 2009. The school consists of the first-level discipline of Information and Communication Engineering, the second-level discipline of Electromagnetic field and Microwave Engineering. The discipline of Information and Communication Engineering was identified as the first batch of master's degree in 1981. In 1998, it was identified as a national first-level discipline doctoral program. In 2007, the second-level discipline of Communication and Information Engineering was entitled as the national key discipline, and the second-level discipline of Signal and Information Processing was entitled as a national key nurturing discipline, which ranked 10th in the first-level disciplines evaluation by Ministry of Education, and was evaluated as A- in the fourth round of disciplines evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2016. At present, the school includes five majors: Communication Engineering, Electronics and Information Engineering, Information Countermeasure Technology, Remote Sensing Science and Technology, Electromagnetic field and Wireless Technology. The Communication Engineering and Electronics and Information Engineering majors are the key specialties of national defense and the key specialties of Heilongjiang Province, and the major of Information Countermeasure Technology and Remote Sensing Science and Technology are the national defense specialties in shortage. The school has now a total enrollment of 1127 full-time undergraduates, 331 graduate students enrolled in the master’s degree programs and 237 graduate students enrolled in the doctoral degree programs.

The school has 154 faculty members, including one academician, two winners of in the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, two members of the Recruitment Program in the Key Talent Program, four members of the Recruitment Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, 33 professors, 54 associate professors, and 62 doctoral supervisors. Professor Yongtan Liu, the subject leader, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is a famous expert in the field of radar and electronics information systems in China. The School has one Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, one Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Security, and one Key Laboratory of Heilongjiang Province. The school is the key member of the first batch of “Aerospace Science and Technology” 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center which is led by Harbin Institute of Technology, and participated in the establishment of the “Wireless Communication Technology” and “Information Perception Technology” 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of the Ministry of Education.

Since 1959, a large number of outstanding talents graduated from our school, and they play essential roles in different areas. The typical representatives include De Ben, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Huidi Li, the Vice President of China Mobile, Xianming Zhao, the President of ZTE, Professor Yong Ren at Tsinghua University, Erqi Liu, the President of the Third Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Gang Wang, the chief scientist of the Alibaba Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and etc. Generations of graduates have been adhering to the school motto of Strictest Standard, Greatest Effort , and dedicating selflessly and diligently in various fields for the economic development of the motherland and the national defense and space industry.

Combining the international academic frontier with the country's major strategic needs, the school has formed a number of disciplines with distinctive national defense and aerospace characteristics. In the past five years, it has undertaken 493 scientific research projects, with a total of 421 million scientific research funds, more than 400 SCI papers, more than 400 authorized patents, one first class prize for the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of State, and 15 provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress. The researchers in the school have developed the first high-frequency ground wave over-the-horizon radar in China, designed and realized a special data link system for accurate target tracking, which has not only solved several key technologies of national defense and aerospace equipment, improved the technical level and capability of our national defense equipment, broken the international monopoly, but also created the brand of special communication system with independent intellectual property rights, escorting the country's economic construction and development.

The school has been always adhering to the fundamental mission of establishing virtue and fostering man, adhering to the central position of talent cultivation, adhering to the basic position of undergraduate education, and adhering to the eight educational and teaching reform measures of “transforming ideas,strengthening general education, refining courses, emphasizing practice, grasping two diversities (individualization, internationalization), constructing organization, strictly evaluating, and promoting development”, which proposed by the university. The school has been striving to build a high-level undergraduate education system and continuously improve the quality of undergraduate talent training. In the past three years, there is one course selected as the national top online open courses (antenna principle), 22 textbooks and monographs published. Relying on the support of national defense characteristic disciplines and professional construction, there is one national engineering practice education center and one provincial experimental teaching demonstration center established.
